Designed for experienced climbers seeking a serious Himalayan objective, it combines professional guiding, comprehensive logistical support, and modern expedition practices to maximize safety, performance, and summit success on one of the world's most iconic mountains.
Mt. Manaslu Expedition
Difficulty
8/10
This expedition demands a high level of prior mountaineering experience, including glacier travel, fixed-rope ascending techniques, crampon and ice axe proficiency, and the physical and mental resilience required for multi-week high-altitude expeditions. Climbers must be comfortable operating above 7,000m and should have prior experience on a technical Himalayan peak before attempting Manaslu.
Activity
High Altitude Mountaineering
A fully supported 8,000-meter expedition on Mount Manaslu combining technical glacier travel, fixed-rope climbing through steep icefalls and ridgelines, systematic altitude acclimatization, and advanced expeditionary mountaineering. Climbers navigate one of the Himalayas' most demanding high-altitude environments with full Sherpa support from base camp to summit.
Best Season
Sept - Oct
The post-monsoon autumn season (September–October) offers Manaslu's most reliable climbing window. Skies clear after the summer monsoon, bringing stable weather patterns, consolidated snow conditions on the upper mountain, reduced avalanche risk, and the best visibility for summit day. Temperatures are cold but manageable, and the mountain sees far less traffic than spring, giving teams a quieter, safer ascent environment.
Max Elevation
0 Meters
The summit of Mount Manaslu stands at 8,163m (26,781ft), making it the world's eighth-highest mountain. Located deep in the Gorkha region of the Nepal Himalaya, the summit offers a sweeping 360° panorama across the Nepalese and Tibetan Himalayas. Reaching this altitude places climbers firmly in the so-called "death zone," where supplemental oxygen and careful pacing are essential for safety.
Location
Nepal
Gorkha District, Nepal Mount Manaslu rises from the remote Nubri Valley in the Gorkha region of central Nepal. The approach passes through traditional Tibetan-influenced villages, alpine forests, and dramatic river gorges before reaching the high mountain environment surrounding Manaslu Base Camp at 4,700m.
Transportation
Helicopter - Flight - Jeep - Trek
The journey to base camp begins with a private vehicle drive from Kathmandu to Besishahar, continuing along mountain roads to Dharapani. From there, the team treks through the Nubri Valley over several days, crossing the Larke Pass (5,160m) before reaching Manaslu Base Camp. The return to Kathmandu is made by shared helicopter flight, providing a spectacular aerial view of the Manaslu range and cutting days off the descent.
Duration
0 days
The expedition runs for 34 days, structured to allow thorough acclimatization and a flexible summit window. This includes 2 days of preparation in Kathmandu, a multi-day trek to base camp, 11 days of acclimatization rotations and climbing training between Camps I–III, up to 9 days of summit push window, and a helicopter return to Kathmandu. Actual summit timing may vary based on weather and conditions, with contingency days built in to maximize success.
Group Size
2-10
Expeditions are kept deliberately small, accommodating between 2 and 10 climbers. Small team sizes allow for more personalized Sherpa support, faster decision-making in changing conditions, reduced congestion on fixed ropes and at high camps, and a safer overall climbing environment. Each climber receives dedicated personal attention from arrival through summit day.
Starting Date
Sep. 5, 2026
The expedition departs from Kathmandu in early September, perfectly timed to capitalize on the post-monsoon weather window. As the summer monsoon withdraws northward, atmospheric pressure stabilizes over the high Himalaya, jet stream winds retreat to higher altitudes, and summit-day visibility reaches its annual peak. Early September departures allow teams to complete acclimatization rotations and position for a summit attempt during the optimal mid-to-late October weather corridor.
Accommodation
Hotel - Lodge - Tent
Accommodation evolves with the terrain throughout the expedition. Climbers stay in 4- or 5-star hotels in Kathmandu at the start and end of the trip. During the multi-day approach trek through the Nubri Valley, nights are spent in mountain lodges — warm, comfortable teahouses run by local communities. At Manaslu Base Camp (4,700m) and all high camps (Camps I–IV), fully serviced expedition tents are provided, equipped with insulated sleeping platforms, heating, and dedicated cooking facilities. The transition from lodge to tent is gradual, supporting physical and psychological adaptation to the high mountain environment.
Price
USD 17,000 - USD50,000
Expedition packages start from USD 17,000 per person for the Classic package, rising to USD 25,000 (Elite) and USD 50,000 (Luxury), reflecting increasing levels of personal Sherpa support, supplemental oxygen allocation, hotel grade, and base camp services. All packages include climbing permits, conservation fees, government liaison officer, full board during the trek and expedition, and comprehensive base camp logistics. International airfare, personal climbing gear, travel insurance, and emergency helicopter evacuation costs are not included and must be arranged independently.
Food
Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner
All meals are included throughout the trek and expedition — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — along with tea, coffee, and filtered drinking water. Trek meals are prepared by lodge kitchens using fresh local produce from Nubri Valley communities. At base camp, a dedicated expedition cook team prepares nutritionally balanced, high-calorie meals designed to meet the elevated energy demands of acclimatization and climbing at altitude. High-camp rations are carefully selected for calorific density, minimal preparation time, and palatability at reduced oxygen levels, where appetite suppression is a known physiological challenge.

Overview
Mount Manaslu (8,163m / 26,781ft), known as the “Mountain of the Spirit,” is the eighth-highest mountain in the world and one of Nepal’s most remarkable 8,000-meter peaks. Located in the remote Gorkha region of the Nepal Himalaya, Manaslu rises dramatically above deep valleys, glaciers, and untouched alpine terrain along the border between Nepal and Tibet.
Renowned for its natural beauty, technical climbing sections, and less crowded environment compared to Everest, Manaslu offers an exceptional high-altitude mountaineering experience for climbers seeking a true Himalayan expedition. The mountain features vast glaciers, steep snow slopes, exposed ridgelines, and breathtaking summit panoramas stretching across the Nepalese and Tibetan Himalayas.
First successfully ascended by a Japanese expedition in 1956, Manaslu has since become one of the most sought-after 8,000-meter objectives in the world. Today, it is widely regarded as an ideal peak for climbers preparing for higher Himalayan objectives due to its balanced combination of technical difficulty, altitude exposure, and expedition-style climbing.
At Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition, our Manaslu program is carefully designed to combine progressive acclimatization, structured climbing rotations, and professional expedition logistics, ensuring climbers are fully supported from arrival in Kathmandu to the summit of Mount Manaslu.
Climbing Mount Manaslu is a serious high-altitude undertaking that demands physical endurance, technical skill, and strong mental resilience. While considered one of the more “accessible” 8,000-meter peaks, it remains a highly challenging Himalayan expedition due to altitude, weather variability, and technical terrain.
As climbers ascend beyond 6,000 meters, oxygen levels drop significantly, and the body must adapt to reduced atmospheric pressure and increasing physiological stress. Above 8,000 meters lies the “Death Zone,” where oxygen levels are critically low and human performance is severely compromised. Proper acclimatization, oxygen strategy, and expedition planning are essential for safety and success.
The route includes glacier travel, crevasse navigation, steep fixed-rope climbing, and exposed high-altitude sections where conditions can change rapidly. At Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition, we apply proven safety protocols, structured rotation systems, and experienced Sherpa leadership to guide climbers through these extreme environments with maximum efficiency and care.
Our Manaslu expedition follows the standard Northeast Face Route, the most established and commonly used path to the summit.
The journey begins in Kathmandu and continues through the scenic and remote Gorkha region, passing traditional villages, terraced fields, river valleys, and Buddhist monasteries before reaching Manaslu Base Camp at 4,700 meters.
From Base Camp, climbers progressively establish higher camps through structured acclimatization rotations:
From Camp IV, climbers enter the upper summit zone, navigating exposed ridgelines and snow slopes before reaching the summit of Mount Manaslu at 8,163 meters.
This route combines glacier travel, technical ice climbing, and high-altitude endurance, making it one of the most rewarding 8,000-meter ascents in the Himalayas.
At Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition, we prioritize safety, structure, and success through carefully planned logistics and experienced mountain leadership.
Our Manaslu expeditions include dedicated climbing Sherpas, structured acclimatization rotations, fully serviced Base Camp and High Camp systems, supplemental oxygen support, daily weather forecasting, satellite communication, and continuous medical monitoring.
From arrival in Kathmandu to the summit push and safe return, every stage of the expedition is professionally managed by our experienced Sherpa team, Base Camp staff, cooks, and expedition leaders. This ensures climbers can focus entirely on performance, adaptation, and summit preparation in a controlled and supportive environment.
The summit of Mount Manaslu represents more than a physical achievement—it is a journey through one of the most beautiful and remote regions of the Himalayas, combining culture, adventure, and high-altitude mountaineering at its finest.
